To join the family, you need to be a go-getter with integrity, clarity of thought and the ability to get along with people. You will have an excellent academic record and typically a minimum of three years working experience in management, operations or consulting. You should be able to demonstrate how you have successfully made tangible improvements in your career so far. We look for a structured approach to resolving issues and the drive to develop your own capabilities while supporting those of your colleagues.
We are driven by challenges and obstacles, and are obsessed with answering the questions that keep our clients (and sometimes ourselves) awake at night. Our team are assertive, confident and committed. We look for drive, courage and realism along with a strong drive to roll up your sleeves and dive right in when something needs doing.

Most of our clients are major organizations and market leaders in their industry. Working on client projects, depending on the nature of the project, will involve regular meetings with our clients, brainstorming sessions with the wider family, and sometimes the opportunity to work from home. You could be leading the entire project, leading certain streams, working on specific tasks within a stream and your role will likely vary from project to project as you develop your confidence and capabilities.
As you grow in the company, and develop your general business skills, you are likely to take on specific internal areas of responsibilities from training, recruitment, staff management, new client business and development, amongst others. We will encourage you to reach outside your comfort zone, far beyond just the areas that interest you most, and work with colleagues and clients who you may not normally come across in your day to day client work.
Team work makes the dream work, and we create that relationship of team work with our clients too. We work hard to create great relationships, getting to know each other and keeping in touch day to day. Internally, we share vital pieces of information, interesting news briefings, project updates, new opportunities, but also spend time reinforcing our internal sense of community by face to face meetings and brainstorming sessions. We learn more about the business, our clients, and colleagues from one another and of course, enjoy the occasions where we get to catch up with friends from the wider MKAKATI family on a Friday afternoon at the end of a great week!
Our business development and consultant model allow individuals to identify development areas and carve out their career path. This framework allows consultants of all levels and experience to understand and use the skills requires at each level. The skills we encourage you to develop are hard skills (such as analytics, process mapping, financial models etc.), soft skills (such as presentation skills, impact and influencing people) and technical skills – and everyone is encouraged to train and learn in these areas to ensure they have the capabilities to meet our clients’ needs.
